So seriously, my weight is getting a little ridiculous lately. Hubster keeps swearing I'm just 'bloated' (what a nice guy), meanwhile he's slicing me some key lime pie and offering to order pizza for dinner. Now, I'm not a big 'diet' person. I did WW in the past (with some great success, if you like having a can of lima beans every day for lunch), and I actually used to work for JC (preservative buffet anyone?). But I really don't like being on a 'diet'. I don't drink soda, I don't eat chips. I do have a sweet tooth, and my workplace is often filled with brownies, cookies, and gifts from reps & clients. Hubster and I enjoy eating out, but we rarely order dessert. My weight is usually 158-162. I'm happy there being 5'8". But it's creeped up to 166-168! No biggie right? Ugh...SO wrong! I can feel it in my running.
Here's the really funny part (funny if you have a sadistic sense of humor and like laughing at other people's misery): I don't care if my jeans are tight, I'll put on a larger pair. I don't care if a shirt shows my 'rolls', I'll just change in to something looser. I don't even care if my thighs rub together when I walk around the hallways at work. What really gets to me, what breaks me down to tears, is when my running clothes don't fit!! When I start to (hold your breath, here comes the word....) chafe on my thighs when running, or when the band of my shorts leaves a nasty red line on my
stomach gut. That's the end of the line for me. Yuck yuck yuck!!
I know what's happened, I've fallen victim to the 'I'm a runner, I can eat anything' mentality. It has to stop. What are your weapons against the pudge?
Oh darling.. I have no advice on the running stuff and weight but as a friend and a fellow female, I understand. Hang in there. You look fabulous and at the end of the day, that's all that matters, right? I hope you figure it out. Love you!
ReplyDeleteMy first line of defense is just as you described: I nip the problem in the bud--meaning I cutback when there's a 3 or 4 lb gain. For me moderating sweets does the trick. mmmmm key lime pie! ; )
ReplyDeleteGirl I feel the same way, I currently am running for Frappes from McD's :(! I am addicted to those darn things

ReplyDeleteI have this habit of gaining weight during the school year (I snack more when I have to study) and then lose most of it during the summer because I don't eat as much and am more active. We'll see what happens this fall now that I am running...hopefully I don't gain it back again!
ReplyDeletethis is an easy trap to fall into. the im a runner and i can eat whatever i want.
ReplyDeleteplus lets be honest, running will make you hungrier. but that doesnt mean we have to feed the hunger. took me a long time to figure that out. i couldnt figure out why i wasnt losing weight! i actually gained weight when training for my first marathon.
now that i am training for my 5th (Chicago)i have learned (for the most part) how to 'embrace my hunger'. its difficult and it sucks but it works. i know and have to constantly remind myself what ive eaten and that honestly now 'how could i STILL be hungry?'
once i figured it out i dropped 12 lbs. i would still like to lose a bit more but its not so easy to do when training for a marathon. running 45-50 miles a week, a girls gotta eat!
give it a shot..and hang in there!
How much water are you drinking during the day? Sometimes we confuse thirst for hunger. When I feel really hungry I chug a glass of water and wait 10 minutes to see if I am still hungry. I also try to use fruit to curb my sweet tooth cravings.
ReplyDeleteI am fighting the same battle. I have been 9-10 pounds away from my goal weight for months now and have just been stuck. I know it's from eating out too much but I haven't been able to break the habit!
I can completely understand the mentality of I'm a runner and I can eat what I want. Everything in moderation I have learned. I get my sweet tooth fix by keeping skinny cows on hand in my freezer. They are actually really good and satisfy my craving!! You can still eat out, just cut the serving in half and have the serve box it up right away. Portion control is the easiest way to cut back without having to give up what you like.
ReplyDeleteFellow 5'8" mid to lower 160's here! I can 100% relate!!! I'm more of a salty snacker, than a sweet one....but I DO find myself eating a full bag of popcorn (movie theater butter no less) and justifying it with my 4 mile run earlier that day. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteHey lady! When I started working out heavily I did a few things. I watched my calorie intake and what I burned because no matter how hard we work sometimes we are surprised that we still do burn less than we think. And like others said when we increase our activity we have a tendency to increase our food.
ReplyDeleteI also did things like My Dinner Factory so we would have fresh foods that we prepared to stock up our freezer that are healthy at home that we just pop in the oven and don't have preservatives like Lean Cuisines do for when we don't feel like cooking and would be tempted to eat out because we eat out a LOT too.
Good luck!!
Hey thanks for visitng my blog. You're right, lets conquer this thing together. It's one thing when it's just not aesthetically pleasing, but when it affects your running or GASP your running clothes, that's a whole other road. HAHAHA
ReplyDeleteI had the same mentality last yr. I was training for my first 1/2 and not losing any weight. Eating everything in sight. Too big proportions.
ReplyDeleteThis time around I am losing weight. But I'm on WW and watching my portion size.
