So today when I woke up I decided to do the same thing. I had a few things already in my schedule this afternoon, so I knew getting up and getting out the door for my run was my only option today. I decided to stay in the neighborhood instead of going to the local park. I'm getting used to the streets here. I actually like running in my neighborhood now! So at 9am I headed out the door.
The weather was beautiful, and thanks to a suggestion from Casi over at Racy Runners, I picked up some Zyrtec the other day and took one last night in anticipation of my run today. I could actually breath outside this morning!! I didn't have any problems with the pollen. No more dirt being shoved up my nose! Thanks girl!! :)
I was also excited to use my new toy:
That's right! A cool, new, PINK spibelt!! I absolutely love it! I couldn't wait to use it today. I stuck my blackberry in it and headed out the door. I never felt it the entire run and it stayed in place! I was pretty shocked. About one mile in I reached down thinking I would need to re-adjust the belt, but it was still in the same place I had put it. Totally awesome in my book! Wednesday I'm going to try using it as a 'ghetto hydration belt' thanks to a little idea Lauren over at Bananas and Toast came up with. Go check it out. :) The girl is a genius.
As for my run stats: 2 miles - 24:31. Staying consistent.
Why is it that every day I go out for a run I want to quit at .5 miles?? Seriously. At this point in every run I think to myself 'Gosh girl, you're terrible, give up!! You'll never be a runner...this is soooo hard!!!'. But I always push through and after the first mile I feel like a rock star! What is up with that??? It's a very bad mental game that I wish would go away. I just always feel so clunky the first few minutes. But then I get into a groove and feel good. I also almost quit after 1.5 miles today, but turned right (away from my house) instead of left (towards my house) and told myself 'Haha! Now you HAVE to run the last half mile sucker!'. I'm such a bully to my brain.
Me after my run today, and after beating myself up for wanting to quit:
I need to save this picture (can you tell I like taking photos btw?? I'm such a photo-ho!) and look at it on the days I don't want to run. I'm smiling, I look happy, and most importantly...I look like I feel good!Question: What do you use for fueling up before your run? I always enjoy a nice glass of cold chocolate milk after (and that really works too!! No muscle soreness and feel completely recovered when I drink my chocolate milk!). But I've been trying to find something good for pre-run. I tried two different varieties of Lara Bars, but I just can't get into the consistency (umm, brick of goo??) and I hate nuts in my food. So those have to go. I have a box of Luna Bars I'm going to try, and I picked up some stuff to make my own trail mix today. What do YOU use? :)

Awww you referenced me! Awesome! And I forgot to mention in that post, the smaller the bottle the better and I ended up having to dump half the bottle in teh first mile cause it was sloshing too much when it was completely full. But half full was perfect LOL.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE luna bars. They taste like candy bars. I can't have them before my run due to fiber content. It seems like fiber and my tummy don't work. but I have a VERY sensitive tummy. My favorite pre-run fuel is a dry english muffin (sometimes I'll spray a spritz or two of spray butter on it) about 80-90 minutes pre-run. I'm usually hungry when I start but the muffin seems to be enough to at least get me going and keep me energized for about an hour of running. The Publix brand ones I get actually have 5 grams of protein which is important for me. It seems like when I do JUST carbs the energy goes VERY fast. After the hour I have to start eating gummy bears (2 every mile or so) with a sip of water each time.
Post run it's skim chocolate milk and lite chocolate syrup! For shorter runs it's 1 1/2 cups, for longer runs it's 2 cups. If I forgot to put my freezer packs in the freezer the night before and have no way of keeping it cold I'll do the Luna bars after the run instead. They just don't have enough protein!
oh and PS you look awesome after your run! I wish I look refreshed after mine. Usually I just look dead! lol
ReplyDeleteThis week it was two cinamon rolls with icing and a glass of water. Not too bad, but I wouldn't reccomend it! I usually do just a scoop of peanut butter, but I LOVE peanut butter. And it's an excuse to eat it straight from the jar. I've never been much of a bread person anyways. I love chocolate milk after my runs but never drink enough of it to warrent buying it every week, so it's a pretty special treat for me. I love Luna bars too. I found these mini ones that were perfect before a run, not too big to wear you're full full but just enough to where you have Some energy, you know?
ReplyDeleteI don't eat anything unless I'm racing or going 10 or more. Then I'll eat 1/2 a Balance bar. If I'm going really long there's a whole involved strategy that includes bagel, PB, hard boiled egg, etc.
ReplyDeleteOh and I still struggle with that first 1/2 mile too so don't feel bad. You're doing great!
Love the post. You have that runner's glow of accomplishment after your run in your phots, but I know what you mean about "getting in the groove"---it usually does not happen for my until mile 2--2 miles runs are hard for me.
ReplyDeleteAs far as pre running meals go---toast with almond butter and jam--kashi cereal with cranberries, almonds, and yogurt---and ALWAYS coffee:)
Love your belt. I need to get one of those.
P.S. the body glide worked GREAT for me the other day (I am pretty sure you suggested it)--thank you.
