So I took my own professional advice and went to the gym today with the thought of 'at the end of my first 5 minutes of running I'll decide to either stop and do intervals or I'll go on and bust out 20 minutes'. Guess what this chic did???
I RAN FOR 20 MINUTES!!!
Can you say AWESOME??
I'm still shocked I actually did it. I have been dreading this day in the C25K program since I started. I was actually nauseous driving to the gym. But I kept telling myself 'No one knows my goal...if I have to stop at 10 minutes no one will know I failed'. Then, on the treadmill, I kept telling myself I was fully capable of this. I've been training for it and it's all part of the program. Hundreds of others have accomplished it and I can too. I've done everything I can to get ready for a steady run like this and here is the chance to prove to myself all of it has been worth it.
I started off feeling yucky and awkward (did I mention I was still slightly hungover? lol), but after 3 or 4 minutes I really got into a good groove. I said I wouldn't look down at the time until I started feeling tired....that was 10 minutes in. Holy cow! I've only ever ran 8! I'm already kicking ass, and I'm halfway there! Minute 15, not doing too bad, my breathing was still steady and my form still good. At minute 17 I started feeling a little fatigued but knew I could push through the last 3 minutes. Minute 18 was hard, and my breathing got a little heavy, but there was no way I was going to come on here and blog about running '18 minutes'. I was going to finish. The last minute ticked by and I slowed the treadmill down for my cool-down. Wow! I had just run 20 minutes!!!! I practically floated out of there.
I am so impressed with the C25K program. I can't say enough good things about it. I'm going in to my last week of intervals and can hardly believe that just 2 months ago I could barely run 1 minute. My legs used to hurt after one tenth of a mile, my heart rate would go through the roof instantly and my face would be tomato red. Now, I can run 20 minutes. I am a runner.
Me celebrating after my TWENTY MINUTE run (and showing off my new Champion singlet & water bottle...I <3 Pink)
What have you achieved recently?

ReplyDeletesecond, you wrote (if after 10 min i have to stop no one will know i failed)...MJ THAT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FAILURE!!! Never look at anything as a failure girl!
sometimes i have reeeeally bad days and i start to get mad or succumb to that failure talk, i just slooooooooooow down whether its outside or on the treadmill...
and on those last 3 minutes thing...that is what i tell myself all the time regardless of time or distance...i say to myself you can do ANYTHING for 3 minutes...or you can do ANYTHING for 1 more mile...
Rock on girly! That is def a feat worth celebrating! I can't wait for a month or two from now to pass and you are celebrating your first 10k! :)
