My response:
Now, let me say, I have the COOLEST doctor in the world. He is awesome. Very nice, personable, and funny. He also has ran 2 of the same 5k's with me! So...he's a runner! (And about my pace too, which is awesome because we can both relate to being turtles.) I decide to level with him....
Me: "Exactly what day can I go back to running?"
Him: *ponders for a moment* "Monday"
Me: "Monday?" *insert low grumble here*
Him: "You'll be ok."
Me: *sigh* "You're right, Monday is better than 2 weeks from now. Thanks for understanding."
As I leave he also gives me a flier for a 5k at the end of this month and encourages me to sign up. I seriously <3 my doctor!

On a positive-thinking note, the following quote came from Runner's World today:
"The thinking must be done first, before training begins. "
-Peter Coe, Father of Olympic Gold Medalist Sebastian Coe
I couldn't agree with this quote more. You have to do the time with your mind as well as your feet. Sometimes (like me right now) you can't just get out and run. But it's important to stay in the mindset of a runner. Do the research, read the blogs, join the community, plan your training. Those will be the things that support you through bad runs, injuries, and illness. Prepare your mind and it will carry your feet.
5 days to go...

Sounds like a great doctor! Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteOh hon I feel for you with the lung junk (and I share your pain as mine is still clearing). Get better fast so you're up and running before you know it!
ReplyDeleteI would give my left nut (if I had one of course) for a doctor that was a runner! Rock on! Rest up and take care of yourself. The roads are waiting on you have no fear! :)
ReplyDeleteWill you really last five more days? Good luck! I do hope you feel better, rest and sleep...that always works for me!
ReplyDeleteI really hope you feel better soon! I've read your entire blog (being a noob myself) and cannot believe your transformation! You've melted from your 1st pics and you look awesome! Your times are also impressive: I can't wait to be at a 12min/mile! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteOh NO! I hope you feel better! I'm glad you have an understanding Doctor who runs too!! Glad the meds are working! :0)
